Compared to 2006, time spent on
reading books has drastically decreased.
Are you interested how much time, on average, people spend reading books in our country? Despite the fact that reading books isn’t an everyday activity for every person, the frequency and time spend on reading books is still probably lesser than you thought. According to the research conducted by IPM, 30% of respondents read a book at least once a month - 28% of men and 30% of women.

It seems that before age 34 men spend comparatively more time on reading books, while after the age of 34 it’s women who spend more time on reading. All in all, during one year a Georgian spends about 1 day and 16 hours reading a book. If we calculate for a lifetime, starting from adulthood – a 65-year-old person has spend on average 82 days reading books. In comparison, by this age we’ve spent 1 year and 58 days speaking on phone. It’s 5 times the amount of what we’ve spent on reading books. If we compare data from similar research, conducted by IPM in 2006 to the one conducted in 2018, we’ll see that time spent on reading books has dramatically changed in every age group. In 2018 time spent on this activity is far lesser than in 2006.
