Not a small number of Georgians have gone abroad, some for work, some to obtain education. IPM Research conducted a survey to study the reasons of migration, the study was conducted in three countries – Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Sample size in each country was 700 respondents.
 
The survey revealed that almost every third family in Georgia (32%) has at least one member living abroad, which is quite high indicator.

19% of Georgians answered positively to the question: would you live in another country. In Armenia, 41% of respondents expressed the willingness to live abroad(see Chart 1). The desire to leave home countries is mostly expressed by people younger than 30-35 years. Majority of Georgians, who want to immigrate, want to live in the USA (20%), in Azerbaijan most frequently named country is Turkey (30%), while Russia is on the first place in Armenia (32%). More detailed list of the most popular countries, the population of all three countries want to live in, is provided in the charts presented below:

Interesting fact is that only 5% of Imereti population express desire to live abroad, while in Samegrelo and Samtskhe Javakheti almost every 1 person, out of four want to depart to other countries for residence. Detailed results in regional section is presented below in table N1.
