In the opinion of Tbilisi residents’ majority,
City Mayor should take care of social problems in the first place.

After couple of weeks Tbilisi will elect a new mayor. Considering upcoming elections, Tbilisi residents’ opinions and expectations for the new mayor are very actual.
“IPM Research” conducted a survey in which 2000 Tbilisi residents participated. The survey participants evaluated how they see future Tbilisi Mayor and his priorities.
As it turned out, for 59% of the surveyed it’s important if Tbilisi Mayor was born in Tbilisi or other region of the country, for 38% it doesn’t matter at all.
82% of the surveyed can imagine a woman to be a Tbilisi Mayor, yet the amount of respondents who can not imagine a woman holding post of Mayor isn’t very small (16%) (see Chart #2). Among the issues to be solved by Tbilisi Mayor, the necessity of solving social problems was unequivocally on the first place. 63% of Tbilisi residents think he/she should tackle them first. Other issues are far behind – among them ecology (9%), architectural planning (8%),
infrastructure (6%), etc. (see Chart #3).
These results are especially noteworthy considering severity
of problems with traffic, public transport and infrastructure in
the capital.

According to the results of the survey about time spent in traffic, conducted by “IPM Research”,
about fifth (22%) of respondents gets into a traffic jam at least once a day; 19% gets into a traffic jam on same frequency (once a day or more often) due to unsettled traffic flow.
According to the respondents they lose about 16 minutes on average in one traffic jam. Because of unsettled road traffic they lose 19 minutes on average. For those respondents who get into traffic jams more than once a day, the time spent in them increases accordingly. Despite the scale of transport-related problems, the issue of traffic and transport is far behind social issues on the list of priorities Tbilisi Mayor should have solve according to the respondents, which only clearly shows that severity of social problems in the capital significantly overweights other extremely important issues in the city.
